Applying to Prep
Prep supports many different types of learners and welcomes students from a wide variety of schools in and around Santa Fe and beyond. Students entering 7th grade in the fall of 2008, for example, came from roughly 20 different schools.
All students who thrive at Prep would likely point to a few common denominators: curiosity, hard work, eagerness to engage with others, and an active imagination. We encourage full participation in the life of the school and find that, as with most enterprises, those who give the most also receive the most valuable returns.

Admissions Criteria
Santa Fe Preparatory School is committed to building an academically strong and diverse student body whose members demonstrate a variety of talents and interests. The Admissions Committee forms an overall impression of each candidate based on character, grades, test scores, teacher recommendations, special talents, and potential for personal and academic growth. Each candidate must be able to handle a demanding college preparatory curriculum and is expected to maintain a positive attitude and an active involvement in the life of the school.
Transcripts and Recommendations
You must give the Transcript Release Form—signed by your parents—to your current Head of School or Principal. Recommendation Forms and envelopes go to your English and math teachers. Be sure to thank each person who is writing on your behalf.
Admissions Placement Test
Each applicant will take Prep-designed placement tests in math and English. Santa Fe Prep no longer administers standardized admissions tests. The testing lasts approximately two hours. Test results are confidential and are only one part of the admissions process.
This year the tests will be offered on the following Saturday mornings at 8:45 a.m. in the School Commons: January 23, January 30 and February 6, 2010. Additional test dates have been scheduled for Friday, February 5th, and Friday, February 19th, at 1:30 pm, to accommodate families with weekend plans. Please email , Associate Director of Admissions, or phone her at 505-795-7517, to sign up for one of the group tests or to make special arrangements.
Interview and Campus Tour
A personal interview is a required part of the admissions process and is designed as a conversation in which the student has a chance to tell us about him/herself. Families may schedule the interview after the tour or after the visit day. Group tours are available on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am and individual tours may be arranged by appointment on a space available basis. Please email , Associate Director of Admissions, or call her at 505-795-7517, to arrange an interview or tour.
Optional Visit Day
Students have the option of spending a morning or a full day shadowing a Prep student. Email Associate Director of Admissions, or telephone her at 505-795-7517, at least one week in advance to arrange a visit day.
Notification
All candidates who have completed the admissions process (application, transcripts, English and math teacher recommendations, admissions test and personal interview) will be notified by mail about their admission status by April 2, 2010.
