Sun Mountain Field Celebration
At the official opening of Sun Mountain Field following Parents’ Open House in late September, Patrick Boyd ’17 expressed the collective glee of the day perfectly as he flipped over the spirit banner. He was followed by the boys and girls varsity soccer teams, who ran towards the many parents and fans gathered for the event. The field was officially “opened” when our 13 senior soccer players simultaneously shot balls from the 12-yard mark through a second banner across the goalmouth. (Several of the shots were actually on frame!)
Thanks go to those who earmarked their gifts for the long-awaited Sun Mountain Field. In particular, the Booster Club’s decision to offer a challenge gift of $100,000 toward the field was highlighted. St. John’s College President Mike Peters, a critical partner in the project, received warm applause from those gathered.
The addition of Sun Mountain Field to Prep’s facilities doubles the available game and practice space for fall and spring sports teams. At the request of Track Coach Tove Shere, key track and field elements are in place: a long jump pit, a shot and discuss pad, and a high jump pit.
Be sure to visit the field when you are on campus and have a few minutes; the views are stunning, the pitch is perfect, and the field is encircled by a gravel walking path already in use by neighbors. Even better, check here for an upcoming home soccer game and come cheer on the girls or boys!
