Year-End Celebrations at Prep

Dear Griffins Near and Far:

I hope this finds you and yours well in this time of great challenges.

I’m writing to let you know how we are marking the end of this once-in-a-lifetime school year, with special attention to promoting our 8th graders to high school and celebrating the forty-seven seniors in the remarkable class of 2020. Please tune in for any or all of these occasions!

Our upper school awards ceremony went “live” last Friday at 1:30pm. You can catch all the action here: SFP Awards Assembly 2020. Special thanks to newly-minted filmmaker Suzie Matthews. As well, through June 1st you can watch the student-driven “Anonymo/us Project” project, championed by Urian Vasquez ‘21 and Raffie Mark ‘21, at Anonymo/us. The film offers a unique window into high school life at Prep. (Thank you, Chloe Sharples!)

We will launch 8th grade Promotion at 10:00am on Thursday, May 28th with an on-line tribute to our rising high schoolers, available>> 8th Grade Online Tribute. Beginning at noon on the 28th, we’ll welcome one 8th grade family at a time onto campus to receive a certificate on the steps of the library; that ceremony will be accessible at the following link: 8th Grade Promotion.

Celebrating Prep’s Class of 2020 is a special responsibility given the challenges of their senior spring. Stephen Badger has spearheaded Project 2020, a film that celebrates seniors: what they’ve learned, what they cherish, who they are. Project 2020 will go “live” at 5:30pm on Thursday, May 28th and will be available here>> Project 2020. We hope seniors and their extended families—as well as many others in the far-flung Prep community—will tune in; the film is only 12 minutes long. Going live immediately following Project 2020 will be a senior slideshow produced by Ambrose Ferber ’93, our associate director of technology, accessible here>> Senior Slideshow.

Since at this time we are unable to hold an in-person Commencement, we have moved that ceremony to Saturday, August 8th at 10:00am . . . and will live-stream the event. We have, however, invited each senior and their parents to Prep beginning at 10:00am and running through noon on Friday, May 29th, the original date for Commencement. You can watch that celebration here: Celebrating Santa Fe Prep’s Class of 2020.

As you can imagine, preparing for and executing these many events across the uneven ground before us will take the hard work and imagination of many here at Prep. This is a remarkable team of faculty and staff, and I am deeply grateful to be in their company.

Be well.
