Both the girls volleyball and soccer teams have finished the first week of post-season tournament play.  The girls soccer team lost to Socorro in the first round of the state tournament, which unfortunately ends their season.  Girls volleyball made it to the quarter finals of the district tournament by besting Monte del Sol in the first round, but lost to Mora in the second round.  They are waiting for the possibility of an at-large berth to the state tournament.  If they earn a spot, they will begin pool play on Thursday, November 4th.

The boys soccer team is seeded third in the A-AAA state tournament, thanks to their unprecedented victory over Sandia Prep on the final day of the regular season.  As the third seed, they received a bye for the first round. The boys open their tournament play in the quarter-finals on Thursday, November 4th, at 2:30 pm against Taos.  The game on the 4th will be played on field #2 at the Albuquerque Public Schools Soccer Complex.  If the boys win that match, the bracket sets up a potential semi-final match-up against St. Michael’s on Friday, November 5th,at 10:00 am on field #3 at the APS Soccer Complex.  The final game of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday, November 6th, at 10 am on field #2 of the APS soccer complex.

Both the boys and girls cross country teams won their respective district meets last Friday in Pojoaque.  This gives them a good shot at the state championships, which take place at Rio Rancho High School this coming Saturday, November 6th.  The boys race starts at 10:30 am, and the girls get underway at 12:35 pm.

Although there is no state tournament for fencing, Prep’s fencers will compete in their final match of the season on Saturday, November 13th.  It’s an open tournament hosted by Santa Fe Prep in the gymnasium.

Good luck to all the Griffins!
