Stephen Guerin, CEO of Simtable LLC of Santa Fe, visited Jocelyne Comstock’s Natural Disasters class. Guerin spoke with the students about how computer simulations can assist in real world preparations for natural disasters, focusing on wild fires. Guerin works with the Forestry Service and other organizations to bring simulations for major disasters and plan for egress from various locations. The Simtable can use data from cell phones on scene and from satellites or drones to create a simulation. Students in Comstock’s class looked at last year’s Paradise fire in California and also examined local evacuation options here in Santa Fe.
