Santa Fe Prep has been awarded a $2 million endowment from the Malone Family Foundation, with the earnings to be used to expand the school’s tuition assistance program for gifted and talented students.

In their award letter, The Malone Family Foundation articulates the primary purpose of this endowment: to provide optimal opportunities for deserving gifted students of limited financial means to reach their potential.” Santa Fe Prep was selected among independent schools nationally to receive this grant and is the only school in New Mexico to have a Malone Scholars program.

Qualifying students must be applicants to the school who demonstrate exceptional gifts and talents and require financial assistance to attend Prep. Head of School Jim Leonard said, This extraordinary endorsement of our program by The Malone Family Foundation will allow us to expand, immediately, our tuition assistance awards to deserving students. The school currently awards over $700,000 annually in need-based aid to over 25% of its student body.

We are so grateful to the Malone Family Foundation for their confidence in Santa Fe Prep and their commitment to families in northern New Mexico, said Leonard. In these challenging economic times, a gift of this magnitude—combined with the generous support of our families and alumni—can make an even more dramatic impact at a school like Prep.

The Malone Family Foundation, founded in 1997 by Dr. John C. Malone, the successful media and communications executive, seeks schools of high academic caliber with proven enrichment programs and a track record of success with talented students from diverse backgrounds. Once students have been selected as Malone Family Scholars, they will be funded through their years at Prep to the full extent of their demonstrated financial need.
