Prep Community Mourns Loss of Two Students

Kate and Alyssa

A memorial service for Prep senior Alyssa Trouw will be held at Prep on Saturday, July 4th beginning at 10 am in the Upper School quad.  The day would have been Alyssa’s 17th birthday, and friends and family members will be sharing stories and memories of Alyssa to mourn her loss and celebrate her life.

Immediately following the memorial, friends are invited to gather for an informal reception at the Trouw home, 1307 Bartlet Court.  The family has asked that donations in Alyssa’s name be directed to Fine Arts for Children and Teens or the Alyssa Trouw Memorial fund that has been established at Los Alamos National Bank.

Alyssa and Prep classmate Kate Klein were killed in a car accident early in the morning of June 28th, along with two other Santa Fe-area teens.  According to information from the Sheriff’s office, the driver of the other vehicle has been charged with four counts of vehicular homicide. Kate was laid to rest in services on July 1st.  Her family has requested that donations be made in Kate’s name to the Natural Resource Defense Council (memorial gift) or Doctors Without Borders.

Members of the Prep community gathered Monday morning in the School’s auditorium to talk with Kate and Alyssa’s families, cry, share stories, write notes, and leave photos and flowers.  A special table is set up in the foyer of the main school building for anyone still wishing to come by and leave a note or remembrance.
