Citizen’s Climate Lobby TAP

A big thank you to prep parent Wendy Odai for her leadership in creating a Santa Fe Prep Chapter of the Citizen’s Climate Lobby (CCL) through our TAP programThe CCL is a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change.

The TAP’s main objectives are to grow youth leadership for climate action and to draft a Memorial for  introduction in the 2017 NM State Legislative session. The group has been working with a few members of the Legislative Council Services for the Memorial and students have practiced their CCL talking points several times now at the Roundhouse, improving each time!

The students have also been working on their advocacy training and learning to work as a team when lobbying for a Carbon Fee/Dividend.  Next steps involve filing a final draft of the Memorial (students have already met with New Mexico Representatives and Senators to solicit support); testifying at the Roundhouse as expert witnesses when the Memorial is introduced; and speaking at Capital High in Feb/March when the Environmental Science Classes study climate change to hopefully inspire other students to get involved.
