Art & Society Class Presents Shoe Show

Gavin Shoes

Members of Prep’s Art and Society class will unveil uniquely crafted sneakers and the accompanying shoe boxes at “The Shoe Show,” a one-of-a-kind sneaker exhibition opening November 7th at Warehouse 21’s second-floor gallery space, and continuing through November 16th.

Students have spent weeks custom-designing blank sneakers provided by Tagur Footwear.  The project is a major component of the semester-long class, which provides students with the ability to effectively communicate about both historical and contemporary issues in the visual arts, and helps students gain a basic understanding of art and artists in social contexts.

Tagur produces the plain sneakers for use by young and emerging artists.  The artists are encouraged to submit their designs to the company. If accepted, the designs are used to produce shoes available at retail.  Prep students will be submitting their designs to Tagur for consideration.  The shoes pictured here were created by Emma Gavin.
