Riding On The Edge Of Greatness

We held Prep’s 50th Commencement exercises on Friday, June 2 on a glorious morning in the renovated upper school quad. Mayor Javier Gonzales, our speaker and the father of Cameron ’17, acknowledged that these seniors are “riding on the edge of greatness” and encouraged them to make the most of their bright prospects. The Doug Schwartz Class Speaker Award winner Oliver Hillenkamp told us of the “mind palaces” used by skilled orators in ancient Rome to remember important memories and details as they addressed the senate. Oliver ended his speech (the entire graduation can be viewed by clicking the link below) with this memorable line of thanks from his own remarkable mind palace: To the pinons, the yuccas, the crows, and the lichens, as we keep exploring, inward into ourselves, and outward into the world.

Wishing you all the best this summer.

Warmly,
Jim Leonard, Head of School
