Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Justice at Prep

Grounded in the vibrant, cultural landscapes of northern New Mexico, Santa Fe Prep nurtures a community where diversity is celebrated, equity and justice are pursued, and inclusion is lived. Santa Fe Prep recognizes the ongoing presence of the layered histories of this region, and carries them forward with care and courage. By listening deeply and engaging thoughtfully, we aspire to understand all voices and experiences in order for belonging to take root. In doing so, we prepare students to move through the world with courage, awareness, empathy, and deep respect for our shared humanity.

COORDINATING COMMITTEE

The DEIJ Coordinating Committee’s charge is to anchor the Prep community in ongoing conversations about the intersection of equity and community membership. Together, we practice actively reflecting on our beliefs and actions within a justice framework, tracking toward a collective fluency that helps foster a more inclusive teaching, learning, and working environment.

Building Empowerment at Prep

We intend for all members of the Prep community — adults and students — to welcome, honor, and value people different from themselves. These skills are essential preparation for our students to live in a multicultural, pluralistic, and kinetic world.

Annual Programming

MLK Forum
Every January, Prep hosts a half-day forum through which the community explores various topics pertaining to equity and justice. Each forum is based on a theme established by the DEIJ Coordinating Committee; past themes have included “Care of Place” and “The Power of Language.”
Professional Learning Community
Faculty and staff meet in a collaborative space to learn from one another, engage with current events, and explore innovative pedagogical approaches. These sessions emphasize justice-oriented best practices and foster a shared commitment to equity, inclusion, and continuous growth within the Prep community.
People of Color Gatherings
The DEIJ Coordinating Committee, in partnership with Prep Parents' Association, creates supportive spaces for historically marginalized community members to celebrate culture, build belonging, and foster inclusivity, empowering them to thrive within the Prep community.
New Mexico Diversity Conference for Youth
Each year, Prep takes a small group of students to the New Mexico convening of the Youth Celebrate Diversity Conference. This is a unique opportunity for young people working for inclusion and justice to come together, learn from experts on a variety of issues, and brainstorm projects to improve their schools and communities.
