On April 10, 2019, Head of School Jim Leonard announced to the Santa Fe Prep community his decision to retire at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Jim will have served as head for twenty-one years: his transformative and extraordinarily successful tenure covers almost half of Prep’s history and certainly more than half of its graduates. This coming year will be an opportunity to both celebrate Jim’s legacy and look to the future of Santa Fe Prep.
In many ways, this inflection point comes at a wonderful time: Prep has a robust endowment, enrollment, and exceptional tuition assistance program; an engaged community; dedicated senior leadership, faculty, and staff; a beautifully updated campus; and a strong commitment to academic excellence and active discourse. We are confident that these many assets will allow the school to attract an exceptional new leader.
Prep’s Board of Trustees has formed a search committee, chaired by Trustee Fred Nathan, to seek input from the many different constituencies within Prep’s community and manage the process of selecting our next head of school. The Board intends to partner with a national search consultant to assist and guide us in this important role. Please stay tuned for updates on the search and opportunities for community involvement.

The Search Committee is conducting a survey of our entire community to insure that everyone has a chance to weigh in and let the Search Committee learn more about what our community is seeking in the next head of school. Please click here to go to the survey. We will hold the survey open until May 26. The more people who provide feedback, the more useful it will be to the Search Committee. Thank you in advance for sharing your perspective.
