The Danny Maas Run is a middle school tradition started by students back in 1981 to raise money for children with cancer. At that time, students were inspired by Canadian teen Terry Fox, who ventured to run across Canada on a prosthetic leg; the run was originally named, “The Terry Fox Run.” It has since been renamed in honor of Prep student Danny Maas, whose idea it was to start the run. Maas and his wife tragically passed away in a car accident in the fall of 2017.
On April 5, the middle school will forgo classes and run at El Rancho de las Golondrinas. The money collected goes to an endowment at the Santa Fe Community Foundation. Interest from that endowment is granted by a committee of Santa Fe Prep upper school students to families in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico with children who are battling cancer.
