Breakthrough Graduation

On Thursday, May 8th, Breakthrough Santa Fe officially graduated the Breakthrough Class of 2014, sending 23 seniors off to colleges around the region. The night, highlighted by the program’s inaugural Davis Breakthrough Scholars, featured speeches by students, administrators, and Andrew Davis. In his speech, Saúl Dominguez, a senior at Monte del Sol Charter School, explained to the crowd of parents and guests that, “Breakthrough forced me to set goals and helped me think about the future as bright and filled with possibilities. This six-year process, although at times challenging, has given me hope to believe in myself and the ability to have a better life.”

Breakthrough Santa Fe is a six year program, supported by Santa Fe Prep, that helps first generation college students reach their dream of going to college The program provides summertime instruction, tutoring, test prep, college counseling, and a consistent line of support for many students who would otherwise be unable to navigate the college preparation and admission process. This summer, Breakthrough’s eleventh, we will welcome 35 new sixth graders from around the district. For more information, please contact Executive Director Talia Winokur.
