Claremont McKenna – Track

How did Prep prepare you to play at the collegiate level?
All credit must go to my coaches, Tove and Laura, who really believed in me throughout my high school athletic career. I wasn’t the best on day one. I wasn’t even the best on day 10, or day 100, but they always had me pushing myself, focusing on the little victories, and never giving up.

How do you juggle your classes and your practice/game schedule?
I schedule my classes in the morning and have practice in the evening. This hasn’t been too hard because, as a science major, most of my classes are in the morning anyway. Track is still a time commitment; so far in the off season, it’s at least 2 hours a day five days a week, which impacts how much time I have for schoolwork, other extracurriculars, and my part-time job.

What is your favorite memory from your Prep athletic career?
My favorite memory might be the XC team placing at state my junior year, or running the 4x400m relay at state senior year.

What advice would you give to current Prep athletes who want to play in college?
Don’t expect that everything will work out right away. If you’re playing in college, at any level, you clearly have talent and a good work ethic, but that doesn’t mean you get to be a starter right away. Work hard, keep focused, and don’t get discouraged.
