The annual Prep Junior Days are upon us! On Wednesday, February 19th, juniors left the classroom to immerse themselves in some real-world learning opportunities, and they will do so again on Wednesday, March 5th. Developed from a survey of student interest, these workshops are intended to engage the juniors’ heads, hearts, and hands in ways that are sometimes overlooked in the focus of preparing for college.
Juniors will have a chance to see how various successful artists, restauranteurs, bakers, lawyers, scientists, and other professionals have carved out a career from their education and life experiences.
Our hope is that our students gain some answers to that perennial junior question, “Why am I having to work so hard?” and begin thinking about how they can put their education to the service of their own passions. This program isn’t necessarily purely a career day; it is a lot of fun as well.
This year’s programs include:
The Business of Art • Law: From Arrest to Sentencing • Running a Restaurant • Blacksmithing • The World of Finance • The Business of Jewelry • Animals: Wildlife Rescue and Management • The Photographer’s Life • Glassblowing • Athletic Training/ Physical Therapy • Science in the Real World • Outdoor Careers • The Medical World • The Hidden World of the Airport and Airplanes • Fashion, Hair and Makeup • The Writing Life: Literature and the Press • Psychology, Psychiatry and Social Work • Public Relations/ Marketing • Baking: Classic Desserts.
A very BIG THANK YOU to all of the Prep parents, friends, and alumni who are helping make this happen.
