Helpful Information

Attendance:

Tardies:

School starts at 8:00 a.m.  Students arriving after that will be marked tardy.  More than 3 tardies to a given class will result in detention.

Absences:

When a student is absent, the parent should call the school office before 9:00 a.m. to explain the absence.  Upon returning to school, students must bring an excuse note to the front office that briefly explains the reason for the absence.

Students who miss more than six sessions of a class in a semester, even for excused absences (excepting school sports commitments), risk academic consequences.  They will be asked to attend a meeting of CEP (Committee on Educational Planning) to discuss their absences.

Appointments:

Ideally, doctor, dentist, tutoring and other appointments should be scheduled outside school hours.  When an appointment is scheduled during the school day, a student must be signed out by a parent, and signed back in by a parent upon returning to school.

Dress Code:

Students are expected to wear clothing that is neat, clean, and in good repair.  Students may not wear items that advertise tobacco or alcohol products, encourage the use of drugs, contain obscenities, or are otherwise vulgar or distasteful.

Students may not carry or wear items that might be construed as drug paraphernalia, and students may not wear provocative clothing such as extremely short skirts and strapless tops or other skimpy clothes that expose undergarments or midriffs.  Pajamas or other sleepwear is inappropriate.

Driving and Parking:

The speed limit on campus is 10 mph, at all times and for all drivers.

All student parking is across Camino Cruz Blanca at the IHM.  Students need a permit to park, which can be obtained from the front office.  Carpool parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and require a special sticker.

Visitors may park in designated areas on campus.

Homework:

All Prep students have homework.  Students are responsible for obtaining missed assignments.  They should request assignments ahead of time when possible.  Otherwise, they should call classmates for this information.  When a student has been absent for 3 or more days, parents may call the school to obtain assignments.

Off-Campus Privilege:

Seniors in good academic and behavioral standing are given the privilege of leaving campus during lunch and free periods.  All other students must have their parents’ written permission and sign out at the Front Desk to leave campus for any reason during the school day, even if all the student’s classes are finished for the day.

Visitors to Campus:

Students must get permission in advance from the Division Head if they wish to bring guests to school.  All visitors must check in at the Front Desk when they arrive on campus.  Students from other schools may not visit Prep students during the school day without permission.
