College Reps to Visit Prep
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Over the next several weeks, more than 50 representatives from some of the country’s most prestigious and selective colleges will visit Santa Fe Prep, giving seniors and juniors an opportunity to interview, ask questions and hear first hand about a particular college experience.
Admissions reps from Brown, Stanford, Emory, Tufts, Rice, UPenn, Vassar, Harvard, George Washington and Pomona, among others, will be available on campus to meet with students, both individually and in groups. According to director of college counseling, Jennifer Dryfoos, Prep is a popular destination for college recruiters.
“Prep students have a reputation for being dynamic, engaged and well prepared for college,” she explained. “Colleges are also working to enroll students from all 50 states, and since New Mexico has a relatively low percentage of high school students going on to college, Prep is one of the first places in New Mexico these reps look to fill their classes,” Dryfoos continued.
A complete schedule is posted in the College Counseling lounge in the Library building, and is available as a pdf on the College Counseling pages of the website. Tips for visiting colleges and interviewing are also available for download from these pages, as well.
Destination: China
Thursday, September 18, 2008
In June 2009, twenty Upper School Prep students will travel to China, spending approximately two weeks visiting such landmarks as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Xian (home of the Terra Cotta warriors) and Shanghai.
The trip is being organized by Upper School history teacher Coco Toderan-Manson to help students gain a first-hand understanding of China’s rich history and fascinating culture, particularly important as China’s presence on the world stage increases.
Ms. Toderan-Manson has selected EF Tours, a nationally known and respected tour company, to escort the group. The first informational meeting for students and parents will be Monday, September 29th, from 7 pm to 9 pm in the Founders’ Room. Applications for the trip will be available at the meeting, and all interested students and their parents are invited to attend.
