Used and retired textbooks will be making their way from Prep to Africa soon, thanks to the efforts of Kathleen Jimenez, Prep’s diversity coordinator and learning specialist.

She learned of an organization, Books for Africa, that collects math, science and literature textbooks from around the country and ships them to Soweta.

From here, they are distributed to children of mothers with HIV.

“I am thrilled the books will be going to children who otherwise might go without,” said Jimenez.

School Entrance

We are just a little over one month into the renovation of the Main School Building and the demolition phase is nearly complete.  Construction crews are now starting to frame the new reception area, offices and community spaces.  According to contractor John Rehders, work has gone according to plan for the most part, with the exception of a huge vein of rock outside the old business office that had to be jack-hammered out, and the start of the monsoon season.  He anticipates work will be finished in late October.  Pictured here is the old entrance to the Main School Building.
